Tooele,
UT After starting out Sunday with the fastest Superstock 1000 lap
time in the morning warm-up session at Miller Motorsports Park,
Yamalube/Westby Racing Rider Josh Day and his team had a lot of
confidence going into the afternoons two races. And that confidence
paid off as Josh notched victories in both races for his second and
third race wins--and third and fourth podium finishes--of the 2015
MotoAmerica season. In Race 1, Josh got off to a good start and
slotted in behind Championship points leader Jake Gagne where he went to
work methodically reducing the gap to him. With Joshs #00
Yamalube/Westby Racing Yamaha YZF-R1 showing prodigious speed and
velvety smooth handling throughout the Utah weekend, he was able to pass
Jake for the Superstock 1000 lead. A short time later, Jake had a
technical problem with his bike, which caused him to slow and allowed
Josh to race virtually uncontested all the way to the checkered flag. After
joyfully accepting the first-place trophy for his win, Josh said, We
really turned a corner this weekend with getting the bike the way I want
it. It really felt good to run with Jake, and I was able to pass him
for the lead, which I was really happy with. My Yamalube/Westby Racing
team has worked tirelessly, and its paying off. Im proud to get this
win for Tryg (Westby) and the whole team. In Race 2, with Josh
and the team brimming with enthusiasm about their victorious result from
a few hours earlier, they set about the task of repeating their
success. With air temperatures hovering in the triple digits and track
temperatures on the 3.048-mile, 15-turn road course significantly higher
than that, Josh and the gold-and-black #00 R1 performed flawlessly from
start to glorious finish. The Floridian rode smooth, fast laps and held
off Superbike rider Chris Fillmore to finish fifth overall and win his
second Superstock 1000 race of the day. When asked about the
welcome change in fortunes for the Yamalube/Westby Racing team, Josh
said, It was definitely a lot better for us this weekend. Weve got it
all sorted pretty well, and I think well be good from here on out. Im
excited to go to Laguna Seca and race in front of the World Superbike
crowd. The team will return to action on the weekend of July
17-19, when the MotoAmerica series shares the world stage at Mazda
Raceway Laguna Seca during World Superbike weekend. Watch Round 6 Of The MotoAmerica Championship On CBS Sports Network MotoAmerica
